What is Gilsonite? Properties and Applications

Gilsonite is a naturally occurring, solid hydrocarbon often referred to as “natural asphalt” or “uintaite.” It is a shiny, black, brittle substance found primarily in the Uinta Basin of northeastern Utah, USA. Unlike petroleum-based bitumen, Gilsonite is mined in its solid form and requires minimal processing before use.
